The Canadian Red Cross Society (CRCS), a non-profit, humanitarian organization dedicated to helping Canadians, as well as the most vulnerable throughout the world, is currently seeking a
Shelter Project Team Leader.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the management of the CRC Shelter Program in Nias, including technical supervision of IFRC on the island;
- In consultation with the CRC Shelter Program Manager, provide overall day to day management of all CRC’s construction teams to ensure the build plan schedule is maintained;
- Work with the CRC Logistics Coordinator and CRC Shelter Project Manager in Nias to ensure CRC Logistics are promptly updated regarding any changes impacting on the delivery schedule;
- Ensure that the shelter project is implemented in a coordinated manner with other relevant projects or activities undertaken by the Field Office, including various assessments and implementation of livelihood, watsan, and other CRC projects;
- Assist the Shelter Project Manager ensure good coordination with key stakeholders involved in the shelter program in Nias (e.g., CRC-National Office, IFRC/UN, local governments and other implementing partners, if relevant);
- Ensure appropriate monitoring and supervision of shelter activities, including development of appropriate monitoring tools;
- Assist the Shelter Project Manager with the preparation of a monthly report for incorporation in the Indonesia delegation monthly report to Ottawa;
- Assist the Shelter Project Manager with planning, procurement, finance, environment and quality assurance issues;
- Assist the Shelter Project Manager manage the Quality Audits to ensure that houses are constructed safely and to specification;
- Assist the Shelter Project Manager ensure health and safety issues for Shelter Team are integrated into the overall health and safety procedures of the Nias office.
Qualifications & Core Competencies:
- University degree preferably in engineering and/or construction;
- A minimum of 5 years experience in project management (preference will be given for candidates with construction management experience), including the planning, design, supervision and implementation of projects;
- Previous experience working in post-conflict and post-natural disaster environments, preferably within a humanitarian aid organization in a developing country (especially remote areas);
- Excellent communications and conflict resolution skills, including proven representation skills, including diplomacy, to donors, counterparts and other stakeholders; and abilities to respond positively to feedback;
- Experience in managing development programs with community based development approaches desirable;
- Demonstrated experience to be self-motivated and proactive;
- Ability to work with and effectively manage expatriate and local staff of diverse backgrounds by executing the control function in a learning approach (e.g., coaching and facilitating);
- Proven abilities to manage expectations of different stakeholders in a balanced manner (e.g., donors, upper management, and beneficiaries);
- Experience in Results Based Management practices considered an asset;
- Previous work experience with the Red Cross Movement is highly desirable.
